The Woodlands Township board of directors election is Nov. 5. Here are some news briefs about local candidates vying for one of the three seats up for election in 2019.

Cooke announces endorsement

Walter Cooke, a local attorney seeking the Position 5 on the township board recently announced he had received an endorsement of his candidacy from former state Sen. Tommy Williams and his wife, Marsha Williams. Williams served as the District 4 state senator from 2002 through 2013 and was the former chairman of the Texas Senate Finance Committee.

According to a press release, Williams was, “the architect of the Regional Participation Agreements with Houston and Conroe. In these agreements, Houston and Conroe agreed not to take any steps to annex The Woodlands until after 2057. These agreements are the cornerstones of the legal framework which allows the residents of The Woodlands to determine the future governance of The Woodlands free of outside pressure and interference.”

Cooke said in the release he appreciated the support of Williams in his bid for a seat on the township board.

Gupta, Sekula-Gibbs unveil campaign websites

Two candidates for the Position 5 seat on the township board — Shelley Sekula-Gibbs and Rashmi Gupta — have unveiled new campaign websites.

Seukula-Gibbs, who served three terms on the Houston City Council in the early 2000s and was in the U.S. House of Representatives for one of the shortest terms in American history, debuted her campaign website several weeks ago. Her website — https://drshelley4township.com/ — has information on Sekula-Gibbs’ background and platform as she competes with two others for retiring director John McMullan’s seat.

Gupta, who is a 22-year resident of the township and a local real estate agent, also unveiled her campaign website after filing her candidate papers on Aug. 9. Her website — rashmiguptafortownship.com — has been online for about a week and includes a bio, her campaign platform and photographs. Gupta is challenging Sekula-Gibbs and Walter Cooke for the Position 5 seat.

Lisiewski, Cooke campaign at farmers market

Two candidates, Walter Lisiewski and Walter Cooke, have made appearances at The Woodlands Farmers Market in The Village of Grogan’s Mill recently. Lisiewski, a candidate for the Position 7 seat on the board, manned a booth on Saturday, Aug. 10, talking to voters who were at the market and passing out campaign material.

Cooke, who is seeking the Position 5 seat on the board, was at the market in his own booth on Saturday, Aug. 3, also meeting and greeting with shoppers and promoting his bid to replace outgoing director John McMullan.
