The Woodlands is gearing up for the holiday season with one of its signature events set to open again.
The Ice Rink in The Woodlands Town Center will open Nov. 16. The location will be near the north gate entry of The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion at 2005 Lake Robbins Drive at the intersection of Six Pines Drive.
The 21,000 square-foot facility will feature the ice skating rink in the main room with a modern sound system, lighting and tables set for parties and concessions according to a release from The Woodlands Township.
The ice rink’s attendance peaks towards the last few weeks of the year and the days around Christmas is when the rink has the most skaters, said Nick Wolda, director of community relations for The Woodlands Township.
“It’s very popular, it will attract between 40 to 50,000 skaters every year. Once it’s open, its open approximately 60 days, seven days a week and now at a permanent home that will never move,” Wolda said. “It’s been able to be a popular attraction, for our residents that we have here in The Woodlands, and our visitors as well.”
Texas Children’s is one of the sponsors for the Ice Rink and through their sponsorship want to help bring the holiday spirit.
“At Texas Children’s Hospital, we know The Woodlands is more than an area of town, it’s a thriving community and one we are so very proud to be a part of. It’s important to us to support and serve children and families, not only when they are at Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands seeking care, but when they are at home, school and play. We believe all children should have the opportunity to participate in activities specifically created for them,” Ketrese White said, assistant vice president at Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands
It’s a way for the town to bring the spirit of the holidays with smiles and laughter of children and families says White.
