Montgomery earned a 25-22, 25-15, 22-25, 25-18 victory over crosstown rival Lake Creek in District 20-5A play Friday.
Emma Ely and Skyla Roth each had 12 kills to lead the Bears (8-4, 5-0). Raina McWhirter finished with 40 assists and 15 digs, and Kendall Sadler paced the defensive efforts with 33 digs. Shelby Meeks added 13 digs, and Peyton Siegrist finished with 11. Grace Ellis collected six kills and six blocks.
Montgomery returns to action at 6 p.m. today at home against New Caney. Lake Creek (4-4, 1-1) plays host to New Caney at 1 p.m. before hosting Dayton for a 5 p.m. match.
The Woodlands beats Oak Ridge
The Woodlands earned a 25-21, 22-25, 25-20, 25-23 win over Oak Ridge in District 13-6A play Friday.
The No. 20 state-ranked Lady Highlanders (10-2, 1-0) were led by Clara Brower, who finished with 37 assists, seven digs and six kills. Reagan Whatley had a team-high 13 kills, and Marjorie Johnson and Claire Arend each had nine. Jackie Lee paced the defensive efforts with 34 digs, Cassidy MacLean had 14, and Arend and Natalie Kimmel each added 10. Lee also recorded six aces.
The No. 17 Lady War Eagles (8-2, 1-1) were led on the attack by Madison Hall, who finished with 12 kills and six digs. Kylee Curl added 10 kills and six digs, and Alex Singleton had nine kills and 18 digs. Tori Perduk had 10 kills. Avery Fowler notched a double-double of 23 assists and 19 digs. Piper Boydstun had 14 assists and eight digs, and Julia Neveu collected a team-high 27 digs.
The Woodlands returns to action at 3:30 p.m. today at home against Kingwood. Oak Ridge, meanwhile, plays host to Crosby at noon. Both are non-district matches.
Lady Highlanders play another
Following its victory over Oak Ridge, The Woodlands jumped back into action a short time later and earned a 20-25, 25-14, 25-18, 25-17 non-district win over No. 14 state-ranked Fulshear.
Brower led the charge once again, collecting 36 assists, 14 digs, four kills and three aces. Whatley finished with 15 kills, and Makenzie Weddel added 10. Lee led the team with 21 digs, Jadyn Ketner added 16, and Molly Tuozzo had 13. Lee tacked on another four aces.
Magnolia West keeps rolling
Magnolia West earned a 25-17, 25-16, 26-24 victory over A&M Consolidated in District 19-5A play Friday.
The No. 3 state-ranked Lady Mustangs (13-1, 6-0) were led by Alyssa May, who posted a triple-double with 12 kills, 11 assists, 11 digs and three aces. Mandy Scherer finished with a team-high 16 digs and six kills, and Ally Wendel added 14 digs. Bethany May contributed 16 assists and 10 digs.
Magnolia West returns to action at 6 p.m. Tuesday at home against Waller.
Grand Oaks sweeps Conroe
Grand Oaks swept Conroe 25-21, 25-8, 25-15 on Friday night in District 13-6A play.
In defeat, the Tigers (5-7, 0-2) got six kills apiece from Abby Calhoun and Shelby Adams. Kenedi Medford had eight assists, and Saege Anzueto had 19 digs.
The Grizzlies (11-2, 2-0) host The Woodlands on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., while Conroe is at College Park at the same time.
Magnolia runs past Waller
Magnolia followed up its big win over state-ranked Brenham with a 25-10, 25-21, 25-13 sweep of Waller on Friday in District 20-5A play.
The Bulldogs (7-6, 4-2) got 11 kills, seven digs and five aces from Brynn Botkin. Faith Lynch had 27 assists, 10 digs and four aces. Ellis Anderson tied for the team lead with 11 kills.
Magnolia hosts A&M Consolidated on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Porter tops rival New Caney
Porter evened its District 20-5A record with a 25-18, 25-18, 25-16 sweep of crosstown rival New Caney Friday afternoon. The Spartans (4-6, 3-3) travel to Dayton at 11:30 a.m. today in another district match.
