The Legacy Prep girls track and field team saw several of its athletes advance to state over the weekend as the Lady Lions won the TAPPS Class 3A South Region championship.
Legacy Prep finished with a score of 118 points, beating out Rosehill Christian (109), Hallett-Sacred Heart (95), New Braunfels Christian (78.5) and Marble Falls Faith (69.5).
The Lady Lions advanced to state in all three relays. The 4x100-meter relay team of Margaret Tautfest, Grace Hopkins, Avery Davis and Bethany Hopkins started things off with a gold medal at 50.83 seconds. The 4x200-meter team of Tautfest, Davis, Madison Steed and Hopkins also took first place with a time of 1 minute, 49.32 seconds. Legacy Prep also qualified for state in the 4x400-meter relay as Steed, Layla Faysal, Tautfest and Grace Hopkins clocked in at 4 minutes, 25.33 seconds.
Individual qualifiers included Caroline Freeman in the 3,200-meter run (third place, 13:26.29), 800-meter run (second, 2:30.72) and 1,600-meter run (second, 5:43.32); Bethany Hopkins in the 100-meter dash (third, 12.80); Grace Hopkins in the 400-meter dash (first, 1:03.36); Steed in the 400-meter dash (third, 1:06.19); Layla Faysal in the 400-meter dash (fourth, 1:07.25); and Tautfest in the high jump (second, J5-00.00).
The Legacy Prep boys also had two athletes qualify for state: Clark Brennan in the 3,200-meter run (third, 11:16.21); and Christos Theodoridis in the 200-meter dash (third, 23.52). The Lions’ 4x100-meter relay team also advanced, taking second place with a time of 45.56 seconds. That team was comprised of Jacob Westbrook, Theodoridis, Carson McDonald and Jeremy Brown. The 4x200-meter relay team of Westbrook, McDonald, Theodoridis and Brown took third place with a time of 1 minute, 37.33 seconds.
