The Woodlands beat Westfield 1-0 to close out play in its Highlander Invitational on Saturday morning.

The Highlanders (7-1-2) scored what became the game winner less than five minutes into the game as Sam Roberts tickled the twine.

The Woodlands hosts Klein Collins at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Conroe, Klein Forest draw

Conroe and Klein Forest played to a scoreless draw Saturday in the Highlander Invitational.

The Tigers (5-0-4) open up District 13-6A play Feb. 5 against Oak Ridge at Woodforest Bank Stadium.

Oak Ridge falls

Oak Ridge picked up its first loss of the season Saturday at the Deer Park Tournament, falling 2-0 to Channelview.

The War Eagles (6-1-2) open District 13-6A play Feb. 5 at Woodforest Bank Stadium against Conroe.

Willis dropped by Tomball

Willis lost 6-1 to former district foe Tomball on Saturday afternoon.

The Wildkats (3-4-3) got their goal from Jonathan Ortigoza.

Willis hosts Lufkin at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Splendora falls to Palestine

Splendora lost 2-1 against Palestine at the Lufkin Hudson tournament Saturday.

Martin Barajas scored the lone goal for the Wildcats (6-6-1).

Splendora returns to action on Feb. 5 at home against Anahuac.


Lake Creek JV places second in Splendora Tournament

Lake Creek’s junior varsity team had a successful outing in the Splendora Tournament, and the Lions placed second after bracket play Saturday.

Saturday morning, Lake Creek beat host Splendora 3-1 in the semifinal. Presley Wilkins scored twice and Nicole Smithers scored once. Splendora (1-4-2) got its goal from Yulitza Benito and Joselyn Gonzalez assisted it.

The Lions played Brazosport to a 0-0 tie in regulation in the championship game, then lost 3-2 on penalty kicks. Ella Bradley and Alexi Landburg connected on their kicks.

Coached by Brittney Burdick, Lake Creek’s junior varsity was victorious over the varsity teams from Vidor (1-0), Brazosport (1-0) and Splendora during the tournament. The losses came to Summer Creek (2-1) and Brazosport in the championship game rematch.

Porter tops C.E. King

Porter beat C.E. King 2-0 Friday night in non-district play.

The Spartans (4-4) got a pair of goals from Jasmine Marquez, both in the first half. Jasmine Stalker assisted the first tally two minutes into the game, then Mary West assisted a goal in the 27th minute.

Porter hosts Dayton at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to open District 20-5A play.
