Bridgeland snapped The Woodlands’ 16-game winning streak and eliminated them from the Region II-6A area round with a 1-0 decision at Klein Collins High School Tuesday night.
The Woodlands ends the season 20-2-2 and were the unbeaten District 13-6A champions.
Bridgeland will face the winner of Aldine MacArthur and Cypress Springs later this week.
Oak Ridge falls on PKs
Oak Ridge rallied but ultimately fell in penalty kicks to Klein Forest in the Region II-6A area round Tuesday night.
The War Eagles (11-7-3) erased a 2-0 deficit in regulation to force overtime, then lost 5-4 on PKs to the District 15-6A champion Golden Eagles.
With the win, Klein Forest moves on to the regional quarterfinal and will take on Langham Creek, a 4-0 winner over Aldine Eisenhower on Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles jumped ahead 2-0 on goals from Nathan Lopez before the War Eagles rallied with two late goals. Adrian González scored with 15 minutes left, then scored again with 2:50 to play to tie the game.
Splendora moves on, Gillespie reaches milestone
Splendora defeated Houston Furr 3-2 at Kingwood Park in the Region III-4A area round Tuesday night, moving on to the third round for the first time since 2016 and second time ever in program history.
The Wildcats (20-6-4) will take on Columbia, a 3-2 winner over Liberty, in the regional quarterfinal later this week. Game details weren’t available Tuesday night.
Tuesday was doubly exciting for Splendora as it was coach Tim Gillespie’s 100th win at the school. Baruc Delgado scored twice for the Wildcats and Hector Villegas scored once.
Magnolia West season ends
Magnolia West saw its season come to an end Tuesday in a 4-1 loss to host Plugerville Hendrickson at The Pfield in the Region III-5A area round.
The Mustangs (18-4-3) got their lone goal from Rogelio Sanchez.
Hendrickson will face either Anderson or Porter in the regional quarterfinal later this week.
Magnolia moves on to regional quarterfinal
Magnolia defeated Pflugerville Hendrickson 2-1 at Cub Stadium in the Region III-5A area round Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs (22-1) move on to the regional quarterfinal for the first time since 2015 with the win. Later this week, Magnolia will take on Austin Anderson in the regional quarterfinals.
On Tuesday, the Bulldogs got their goals from Sarah Gianotti and Maddie Ellis. Gianotti assisted Ellis’ goal.
Grand Oaks falls to Tomball Memorial
Grand Oak’s first season in Class 6A came to an end Tuesday at home with a 3-0 loss to Tomball Memorial in the Region II-6A area round.
The Grizzlies (16-5-1) made the playoffs and won the program’s first playoff game this season. Against the Wildcats, Grand Oaks trailed 1-0 at halftime before the District 15-6A champs added goals in the 54th and 75th minutes.
Tomball Memorial will take on Klein Cain in the regional quarterfinal later this week.
Oak Ridge’s season comes to end
Oak Ridge saw its season end with a 3-0 loss to Tomball in the Region II-6A area round Tuesday night.
The Lady War Eagles (9-9-1) found themselves down 3-0 after eight minutes via two through balls and a corner kick. While the defense held its own the rest of the game, the offense wasn’t able to find the back of the net.
“Overall great season for my girls,” coach Miriam Morales said via text. “We have such a small (number wise) and young team. I am extremely proud of my girls. They have the biggest hearts and their team chemistry is something special. They simply left it all on the field every game they played. I couldn’t ask for a better group of girls.”
Tomball will take on The Woodlands in the regional quarterfinal later this week.
