The Woodlands beat Grand Oaks 68-48 on Thursday afternoon in District 13-6A play.
The Highlanders (11-3, 2-0) outscored the Grizzlies (7-6, 1-1) by a score of 49-31 over the final three quarters after a tight opening frame.
Isaiah Brown and Shey Eberwein were both strong from the outside for The Woodlands in the win. Brown led all scorers with 21 points and hit five 3-pointers. Eberwein had 12 points on four 3-point buckets. Brock Luechtefeld scored 17 points from his post position, 11 of them coming in the first half.
Chamberlain Newman led Grand Oaks with 12 points. Sean Stewart was close behind with 10 points. Doug Sanford and Samuel Nkassa added seven points apiece.
The Woodlands is at Conroe at noon Saturday. Grand Oaks hosts Willis at the same time.
Magnolia falls on the road
Magnolia lost a tight battle 59-57 at Madisonville on Thursday in non-district play.
The Bulldogs (9-5) got 23 points from Andrew Bauer, who mad seven 3-pointers. Connor Lindvall added 13 points.
Magnolia resumes District 19-5A play Tuesday as it hosts College Station at 6:30 p.m.
Cavs win fifth straight
College Park beat Klein Cain 46-43 on Thursday in non-district play.
The Cavaliers (10-5) close out 2020 on a five-game winning streak. In Thursday’s win, Treasure Harrison had 12 points, eight rebounds and five steals. Ali Diop also scored 12 points.
College Park opens District 13-6A play Saturday at 1 p.m. at Oak Ridge.
