Late free throws helped Lake Creek to a 49-47 win over A&M Consolidated in the Region III-5A bi-district round Monday at Madisonville High School.
The Lions tied the game with a 2 for 2 trip to the line from Hudson Boyd, then took the lead for good with Jordan Fitch’s perfect trip in the fourth quarter.
Boyd led Lake Creek with 18 points. Fitch had 15 points and six assists. Mason Moore chipped in nine points to the victorious effort.
Lake Creek led 17-12 after the first quarter, then a slower second frame saw the Tigers pull even to 24-24 at the break. The Lions led 36-31 entering the final frame.
The Lions will take on Anderson, a 68-49 winner over Pflugerville on Monday, in the area round on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Bryan Rudder High School.
Conroe ends seasons in bi-district
Conroe saw its season come to a close Monday with a 67-54 loss to Aldine Davis at Porter High School in the Region II-6A bi-district round.
The Tigers (11-14) had four players in double-digit scoring in the loss. Mikey Sneed and Colby Grein had 13 apiece, while Kamari Weatherspoon and JJ Moore scored 10 each. Thomas Farrell chipped in eight points.
The Falcons (18-7) got 19 points from Dylan Macky. Denerick Reynolds and Les Lewis scored 10 apiece.
Davis will face Cypress Lakes in the area round. The Spartans upset District 15-6A champion Klein in the bi-district round Saturday.
Oak Ridge falls to Westfield
Oak Ridge lost to District 14-6A champion Westfield 90-61 on Monday in the Region II-6A bi-district round of the playoffs.
The War Eagles (12-16) were led by Alton McCaskill’s 15 points. AJ Badger had 12 points on four 3-pointers, and Ian Egele chipped in nine points.
The state-ranked No. 13 Mustangs (23-3) move on to the area round, where it will face Cypress Park, a bi-district winner over Klein Forest on Saturday.
