The Woodlands edged Willis 3-1 on Tuesday in District 13-6A play.
The Highlanders (15-5, 4-2) scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to break the 1-1 tie. Singles from Zach Pine and Harrison DiPasqaule drove in the runs that allowed The Woodlands to earn the win.
Dylan Kerbow pitched a complete game for the Highlanders with four hits allowed, no earned runs, no walks and 11 strikeouts. The Wildkats (7-13-1, 1-5) got five innings from Maddox Keo with a line of six hits, three earned runs, two strikeouts and five walks. Camden Kay allowed two hits and struck out one in an inning.
DiPasquale, Pine and Kerbow had two hits apiece to lead The Woodlands. Willis had four hits, one apiece from Ayden Slott, Conner Polk, Steele Bardwell and Braydon Hawthorne.
Willis is at College Park at 7 p.m. Thursday, while The Woodlands travels to Oak Ridge at the same time.
Lake Creek tops rival Montgomery
Lake Creek held off a late Montgomery charge for a 7-6 win in the first MoTown Showdown of the season.
The Lions (10-8-1, 5-0) got a solo homer from Samson Pugh while Blake Brown and John Spikerman (3 for 4) drove in two runs apiece. Brown and Ethan Uribe each had a double.
Shane Sdao struck out nine in five innings for Lake Creek.
Montgomery (11-6-2, 4-1) scored four runs over the final three innings as it tried to catch up after trailing 7-2.
Weston Dean was 4 for 4 with a double, triple and an RBI. Brett Acreman tripled and had two RBIs.
Montgomery hosts Lake Creek at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Oak Ridge rallies, tops Conroe
Oak Ridge rallied for five runs in the top of the seventh inning to beat Conroe 6-2 on Tuesday night in District 13-6A play.
The War Eagles (12-12, 5-1) walked four times in the seventh. Two runs were scored on walks, one on an error, one on a passed ball and one on a Jett Feltman single. The Tigers (6-14-1, 1-5) went down in order in the home half of the seventh.
Hunter Wells and Dillon Staples had two hits apiece to lead Oak Ridge, while Conroe had four players with a hit apiece including Xander Nabors, who tripled.
Jose Carrion pitched five innings for the War Eagles with a line of three hits, two runs (one earned), eight strikeouts and one walk.
Oak Ridge opens up the second round of 13-6A play at home against The Woodlands at 7 p.m. Thursday. Conroe is at Grand Oaks at the same time.
Grand Oaks tops College Park
Grand Oaks wrapped up the first round of District 13-6A play with an 8-3 win over College Park on Tuesday.
The Grizzlies (14-5-1, 5-1) led 3-0 after two innings, then added five runs in the fifth. The Cavaliers (9-10-1, 2-4) scored once in the fifth and added two in the seventh.
Jace Farnsworth was 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs for the Grizzlies. AJ McCrady and Shane Martin had two hits apiece for Grand Oaks. Martin and Larry Drake, who both doubled, had two RBIs apiece. Antonio Sabala had a triple. Jason Burger led the way on the mound, going six innings with a line of three hits, two earned runs and six strikeouts.
Carter Gorling scored twice and hit a solo home run for the Cavs. College Park used three pitchers in the loss.
College Park hosts Willis at 7 p.m. Thursday, while Grand Oaks hosts Conroe at the same time.
Magnolia extends lead late, tops Paetow
Magnolia turned a tight game into a 7-2 victory Tuesday night after scoring four runs in the top of the seventh in District 19-5A.
Jordan Miller was 2 for 3 with a game-high three RBIs for the Bulldogs (12-8, 4-1). Cameron Nickens was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Tyce Armstrong was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.
Nickens went five innings for the win. He struck out six and allowed two earned runs of four hits.
Magnolia hosts Paetow at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Waller wins in 8th over Mag West
Waller scored on a dropped third strike in the bottom of the eighth inning Tuesday to defeat Magnolia West 3-2 in District 19-5A.
The Mustangs (7-11, 1-4) scattered four hits with Caylon Dygert and Mason Swidersky each with an RBI.
William Schriever struck out nine in five innings while Gregory Ferguson didn’t allow a hit and struck out seven in 2 ⅔ innings relief.
Magnolia West hosts Waller at 7 p.m. Thursday.
K-Park takes down New Caney
Kingwood Park took a 13-7 win at home over New Caney Tuesday night in District 20-5A.
The Eagles (8-10, 0-5) received two RBIs on a 2 for 4 night by Hunter Fountain. Tate George was 2 for 4 with a run scored and Jonathan Franklin scored two runs.
New Caney is at Kingwood Park at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Porter remains unbeaten in 20-5A
Porter scattered 15 hits in a 14-0 District 20-5A home win over Caney Creek Tuesday night.
The Spartans (14-7, 5-0) had seven players contribute RBIs, led by Conner Westenburg with three. Zane Adams, Colby Christian and Joshua Evans-Pickens each had two RBIs.
Westenburg and Bailey Dromgoole each had three hits.
Zane Adams struck out 12 in a one-hitter.
Porter hosts Caney Creek (8-9, 0-5) at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Splendora falls to Liberty
Splendora fell 6-3 at Liberty on Monday in District 21-4A play.
The Wildcats (8-11, 1-3) had 10 hits in the game, but struggled defensively with eight errors -- just one of Liberty’s runs were earned by a Splendora pitcher.
Connor McCleskey was 3 for 4 with a double to lead the Wildcats at the plate.
Splendora hosts Livingston at 7 p.m. Thursday.
