Former The Woodlands softball player Kaitlyn Stavinoha’s big season earned her a first-team selection to the All-Atlantic 10 team for the second straight season.

Stavinoha, a member of the last TWHS team to reach the state tournament in 2015, capped the regular season of her senior year at UMass the leader in nine offensive categories.

The infielder led the Minutewomen in nine offensive categories this season - most notably in batting average (.399), homers (six), RBIs (37), doubles (12) and triples (four). Stavinoha was also a first-team selection as a junior.

According to a school press release, Stavinoha had 18 multi-hit games and nine of those she reached safely base via a hit three or more times.

An accounting major, Stavinoha was also a first-team Atlantic 10 All-Academic team for first time in her career.

The Minutewomen begin the Atlantic 10 Tournament on Thursday.


Aubrey Leach (The Woodlands) was selected second-team All-SEC ahead of this week’s tournament. Leach, a senior infielder, is the all-time Lady Vols leader in runs scored (currently 248) and walks (159). The former Lady Highlander is batting .400 with two homers and 22 RBIs. She also has 17 stolen bases and a fielding percentage of a career-best .971.

Sam Houston State had a pair from Montgomery County make All-Southland Conference. Tiffany Thompson (Montgomery) was selected first team. The junior shortstop batted .330 in league play with three homers. She is a two-time Southland Conference Hitter of the Week this season. Also for the Bearkats, Taylor Fuselier (Magnolia) was a second-team selection after batting .348 in league play with a homer and seven RBIs.


The University of Texas won the NCAA Norman Regional Tournament on Wednesday to advance to the NCAA Tournament. Freshman Hailee Cooper (Montgomery) finished the three-round tournament tied for 27th at 2-over par (218). She shot a 2-under 70 in the third round Wednesday for her best 18 holes of the tournament.

The Longhorns finished with 10-under par 854, nine shots ahead of Wake Forest. The NCAA Tournament starts May 17 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Also at Norman, Greta Bruner (The Woodlands) of TCU finished in a tie for 15th at even-par. Ava Schwienteck (Magnolia) finished tied for 54th playing for Texas A&M. The sophomore was 9-over par 225. Freshman Kenlie Barrett (The Woodlands), the Southland Conference individual champion two weeks ago, finished tied for 76th at 16-over par 232.


Nate Fisbeck (College Park) is batting .294 at McNeese through 48 games of his junior year. The former Cavalier is tied for the team-high in homers with nine an RBIs with 36. Both are career highs.

Patrick Hine (Porter) has pitched the most innings for Redlands Community College with 53 1/3 logged so far. The freshman has struck out 38 and has a 2-6 record.

Dylan Johnson (Splendora) has pitched in 17 games as a freshman for Lamar with four starts. The former Wildcat has a 6.00 ERA but has struck out 26 in 27 innings.

Andrew Paulsey (Conroe) has 40 RBIs so far during his freshman campaign at Fort Scott Community College. The former Tiger also has two homers and is batting .355 in 138 at-bats. Paulsey also has 12 doubles and three triples.

Brandon Ramirez (Willis) and the LeTourneau University Yellowjackets are set to play in the American Southwest Conference Gold Bracket Championship series on Thursday and Friday against Concordia. The former Wildkat leads LeTourneau in batting average at .329 and he has 24 RBIs and 22 runs scored.


Ashley Penshorn (Montgomery) was named the Heartland Conference Freshman of the Year. The former Lady Bear helped the St. Mary’s Rattlers to a tournament title and had a 16-3 overall singles record. Penshorn played from the No. 5 singles spot and was 9-3 in conference play.
