Andrew Cashner made his debut on the mound for the Boston Red Sox Tuesday night against the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park.

Things did not go in the Conroe native’s favor, however, as he allowed five earned runs in five innings worked in a 10-4 loss.

Cashner was traded to Boston from Baltimore for prospects last Saturday.

The Red Sox (51-44), who entered Wednesday 3 games out of the final wild card spot and 10 games behind first-place New York in the American League East, scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game at 4-4. Cashner then allowed two runs to start the top of the sixth before he was pulled.

“It wasn’t very good, especially after we scored those runs to tie the game back up and give up a lead off homer,” Cashner told the Associated Press. “So that’s probably the toughest blow of the game.”

The Associated Press reported late Tuesday night that Baltimore jas agreed to pay out $2.5 million in performance bonuses as a part of the trade.

Cashner, who’s next start will come this Sunday afternoon against his former team, the Orioles, has a 9-4 record on the year with a 4.09 ERA. The former TCU Horned Frog has 68 strikeouts to 31 walks.

Adam Kloffenstein (Magnolia) picked up his first professional win on the mound Monday night for the Vancouver Canadians, the Single-A Short Season affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. The former Bulldog worked five innings of shutout ball with five strikeouts and two walks. In 24 2/3 innings worked this summer, Kloffenstein has a 2.92 ERA with 22 strikeouts.

Trevor Stephan (Magnolia West) has a 1-7 record while working games between Double-A and Single-A for the New York Yankees minor league system. The former Mustang and Arkansas Razorback has a 6.84 ERA with 53 strikeouts and 24 walks.

Luke Sherley (The Woodlands) had two RBIs for the Lakeland Flying Tigers, the Single-A Advanced affiliate for the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Sherley for the year is batting .204 with a homer and eight RBIs in 33 games and 106 at-bats.

Austin Briggs (Conroe) has a respectable 3.21 ERA in 14 innings worked for the Vermont Lake Monsters, the Single-A Short Season farm team of the Oakland Athletics. Briggs has struck out nine of the year and two scorless innings of relief in a recent outing against Batavia on Sunday.

Durbin Feltman (Oak Ridge) has three saves for the Boston Red Sox’s Double-A team, the Portland Sea Dogs. The former TCU Horned Frog has allowed two earned runs in each of his last two outings. His ERA sits at 5.29, but opponents are batting just .205 off him.
