The Southland Conference released its 2020 Preseason All-Conference baseball team selections last week, and the list featured a former College Park Cavalier.
McNeese senior second baseman Nate Fisbeck garnered a first-team honor and was also a third-team All-America pick by Collegiate Baseball ahead of this weekend’s opening series against Mississippi Valley State.
Fisbeck was a first-team all-conference selection for the Cowboys last season as he appeared in all 61 games and batted a career-high .304. The former Cavalier also hit 12 home runs and drove in 51 runs. His slugging percentage was a lofty .541 as he recorded 24 multi-hit games for the Cowboys, who reached the NCAA Tournament last May.
In three seasons at McNeese, Fisbeck has 16 home runs and 79 RBIs while batting .274.
The Cowboys were selected No. 3 in the preseason Southland Conference poll.
Fisbeck, a 2015 graduate of College Park under previous head coach Jason Washburn, received numerous honors in high school such as all-district, all-state, All-Montgomery County and All-Greater Houston.
Travis Washburn (College Park) is off to a big start at Navarro College. The sophomore is batting .400 through six games, and his on-base percentage is .552 with eight walks. Washburn has five RBIs and has hit three doubles.
Brandon Birdsell (Willis) is 2-0 through his first two starts and seven innings pitched at San Jacinto College. The sophomore has 11 strikeouts and four walks with a 3.86 ERA. Birdsell spent his freshman year at Texas A&M.
Zayne Watson (The Woodlands) hit his first collegiate home run for McCook Community College over the weekend. The freshman totaled two RBIs and also stole a base over four games and 13 at-bats against North Lake.
Through two games at Fort Scott Community College, Andrew Paulsey (Conroe) is batting .333 with an RBI and a run scored. As a freshman last year, Paulsey batted .340 with three home runs and 42 RBIs.
Kelcy Leach (The Woodlands) has two home runs and three RBIs for Texas Tech through the first four games. Both homers came against Louisiana Tech.
Alayis Seneca (The Woodlands) appeared in four games for McNeese State over the weekend and totaled three hits in five at-bats. The sophomore also drove in three runs and scored twice.
Madison Washington (Magnolia West) is batting .385 for UTSA through her first five games of her redshirt junior season. The former Lady Mustang has one home run, three RBIs and three runs scored.
McKenzie Parker (Willis), a sophomore at the University of Texas, totaled three RBIs over the weekend as the Longhorns hosted several teams at Red and Charline McCombs Stadium. The former Ladykat scored four runs and had a double. Ariana Adams (Magnolia West), a junior pitcher, totaled six innings for the Longhorns with five strikeouts and two earned runs allowed during the weekend.
Jay Lewis (Conroe) netted a team-high 28 points for Cloud County Community College in a loss to Cowley County on Monday. Lewis was 13 for 15 from the line and 7 for 15 from the floor. He also grabbed three rebounds and had two assists. Lewis, a sophomore guard, is averaging 16.8 points per game.
Derrick Herrick (Lifestyle Christian) has appeared in 20 games off the bench for Midwestern State University. In 238 minutes played this season, Herrick has scored 54 points and grabbed 35 rebounds. Herrick, a redshirt freshman guard, scored a season-high nine points against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Jan. 30.
