To help fill the need for donated blood as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, 2 blood drives are planned for Woodlands YMCA locations, one Monday and another March 27.

According to a press release sent Thursday, the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center donor coach will set up in the parking lot on Monday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., at the Shadowbend YMCA, located at 6145 Shadowbend Place. There are no walk in appointments allowed and all potential donors must register online with a preferred time of an appoiontment at

The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center donor coach will make a second appearance in The Woodlands at a different location March 27, at the Branch Crossing YMCA, 8100 Ashlane Way also from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. As with the Monday donation session, there will be no walk-in appointments allowed.

According to information in the release, the novel coronavirus, “does not pose any risk to blood donors, either during the donation process or while attending organized blood drives.”

County food bank starts virtual donations drive

Officials with the Montgomery County Food Bank have partnered with both the Houston Food Bank and Feeding America to help deliver food to those in need during the COVID-19 novel coronavirua pandemic. However, in a press release issuesd on March 19, officials, said in order to, “ensure the highest food safety standards for our community, we are not encouraging community food drives.”

The release stated that residents can help by participating in the food bank’s Virtual Food Drive, with officials saying a mere $1 donation is equal to five meals. Visit the food bank website for more information on how to donate.
